Message from Outgoing ALMU Chairman to Membership
Dear ALMU members,
Two years have passed since I began my term as the inaugural Council Chairman of ALMU. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the founding directors, Council members, members, industry liaison advisor and secretariat team for their unwavering support and contributions to the association.
We have accomplished considerably within a short span of two years. The membership base has grown to more than 120 members from 20 countries, comprising independent lubricant manufacturers, major and national oil companies, suppliers and industry associations. I would like to thank Mr Charles Champion, our industry liaison advisor, for this effort. ALMU is also fortunate to have garnered support from our established affiliate members across the U.S., Europe and China.
ALMU initiatives and programmes would not be possible without the contribution from our five sub-committees, namely membership; technology and information; professional development; governance, best practice and international relations; events and activities. Thanks is due to our sub-committee chairs and members for selflessly sharing their time and expertise.
The inaugural ALMU Annual Meeting and Global Leadership Summit held in March 2019 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore was a success, where discussions focused on a broad range of topics and challenges facing our industry, including the impact of counterfeit oils and how well-prepared our industry is for digital transformation. The first AGM and in-person Sub-Committee meetings presented an opportune platform for members to network and exchange critical industry concerns. I am pleased that the 2nd AGM and Global Leadership Summit, now deferred to 31 August – 2 September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has already received strong sponsorship from generous members.
One of Council’s agenda is promoting continued professional development within the industry. I was pleased that the two-day Lubricant Fundamentals Course held in September 2019 at Raffles Town Club, Singapore, met an identified need in our industry. ALMU is continuing to develop relevant professional and technical training programmes and courses.
Local and overseas members attending the dinner talk on Doing Business in China and The Impact of the US-China Trade War in November 2019 also benefitted from establishing valuable relationships with fellow members. The Digital Roundtable and Plant Tour enabled members to explore opportunities of digitalization for optimal outputs and be future-ready for Industry 4.0.
I urge all members to continue fully utilising ALMU website features such as members-only login portal which contains our membership list, ALMU White Paper on Electric Vehicles and forum platform. The preparation for the White Paper on Counterfeit Oil is also on track and will be published soon.
It has been a privilege to be ALMU Chairman for the first term. I wish to hand over the Chair to a younger generation leader to grow ALMU to greater heights.
