Member-to-Member Sharing: ALIA White Paper on Commercial Vehicle Lubricants

Mr. Paul Nai will be sharing the ALIA white paper prepared in collaboration with Lubrizol Additives. Tighter emissions regulations are being implemented around the world, including Asia Pacific. These stricter regulations are creating challenges not only for the automotive sector and fuel producers, but also for the lubricants industry. Changes in vehicle hardware have made the operating environment of lubricants significantly more demanding. This white paper looks at specifically four countries in Southeast Asia to understand the vehicle parc and assess the disparity between prescribed lubricants and those that are actually in use.

In all four markets, there is a disparity between recommended oil quality and the engine oil in use. This raises major concerns for vehicle operators in terms of increased maintenance and the associated cost of engine failure. There should also be a concern for governments as vehicle efficiency is compromised and harmful vehicle emissions reduce air quality — especially in urban areas.
