SUMMARY:ALIA Webinar: Base Oil Supply and Demand
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the ALIA Webinar on Base Oil Supply and Demand\, happening on February 6\, 2025\, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM SGT. This insightful session will feature Milind Phadke\, a seasoned expert and Vice President\, Energy at KLINE & Company\, alongside moderator Paul Nai\, Regional Business Director of Lubrizol South East Asia (Pte) Ltd.\, and Chair of the ALIA Technology Subcommittee. \nAbstract \nNew Business Opportunities for Basestock Marketers \nLubricant basestocks are the primary precursor for blending finished lubricants. At the same time\, basestocks do not have any volumetrically significant applications excluding finished lubricants. As a result\, trends that impact the finished lubricants market impact the basestocks market though with some time lag and other distortions. \nThe dominant trends impacting the finished lubricants\, have one underlying driver: decarbonization. Electrification will drive a decline in PCMO consumption and to a much lower extent and in the mid-to long term HDMO consumption. This will have the most impact on Group III/III+ and Group II. In addition\, growing considerations around product carbon footprint (PCF) and circularity create new challenges and opportunities for basestocks marketers. \nThe supply base for basestocks is not static. If all the announced capacity additions see the light of day\, both Group II/II+ and Group III/III+ will see global capacity increase by around 15% each by 2043 – most of which will happen in the next 5 years. This will have to be compensated by an equivalent reduction in Group I to balance the market. In reality\, the reduction in Group I supply could be higher depending on the actual electrification pathway and the actual surplus in the global market. \nHow do basestocks marketers navigate this market dynamic? Depending on each marketer’s unique business environment\, three “fronts” emerge: \n1. The search for value: How can basestocks marketers extract incremental value in a fast-commoditizing product? \n2. The search for growth: New applications – What are the emerging applications for basestocks? How can basestock companies prepare themselves to tap emerging opportunities? \n3. The search for optimal footprint: Circularity and PCF in lubricants – What are the risks and opportunities represented by circularity and PCF? How can basestocks companies tackle the risk posed by PCF and RRBOs? \nIn this webinar\, we will outline the current and future basestocks market. We will then explore what these three “fronts” mean for basestocks marketers. \nWebinar Details: \n📅 Date: February 6\, 2025 \n⏰ Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM SGT \n💬 Topic: Base Oil Supply and Demand \n🎤 Speaker: Milind Phadke\, Vice President\, Energy at KLINE & Company \n🛡️ Moderator: Paul Nai\, Regional Business Director\, Lubrizol South East Asia (Pte) Ltd.\, and Chair of the ALIA Technology Subcommittee \nRegistration closes on February 4\, 2025  at 6:00 PM SGT. SUMMARY:ALIA Webinar: Examining Hydrogen’s Role in Asia’s Energy Future
DESCRIPTION:Asia’s influence in the global economy has steadily grown over time. The region has evolved into an industrial powerhouse\, excelling in manufacturing\, technology\, innovation\, and logistics. However\, this industrial growth has come with a heavy reliance on fossil fuels—primarily coal\, oil\, and natural gas—which has made Asia a major contributor to global carbon emissions. \nTo achieve its decarbonization targets\, Asia is placing high hopes on Hydrogen\, with several countries in the region having already implemented national hydrogen strategies. The potential for Clean Hydrogen in Asia is vast\, and it is beginning to make inroads across various sectors. From power generation and transportation to hard-to-abate industries like shipping and aviation\, hydrogen projects are emerging across the region. \nAsia’s hydrogen market is unique\, where we see countries leading in production and consumption such as China and India alongside nations like Japan and South Korea\, which aim to become leading importers. Meanwhile\, Australia is positioning itself as the world’s largest hydrogen exporter. \nWhile Asia consumes around 50% of global fossil-based hydrogen\, the business case for clean hydrogen is still in the early stages of development. A major hurdle is the high cost of producing green hydrogen\, which is currently 3 to 6 times more expensive than grey hydrogen. The demand supply balance and regulatory landscape is still uncertain\, with only a few projects advancing to the final investment decision stage. \nHowever\, Asia is uniquely positioned to overcome these obstacles. The region’s significant demand potential\, coupled with abundant renewable energy resources in countries like Australia\, India\, and China\, can help drive down the cost of green hydrogen production. Additionally\, China’s competitive edge in electrolyser production further strengthens the region’s ability to scale up clean hydrogen effort. \nIn this webinar\, we will examine: \n\nAsia’s energy transition and hydrogen’s role in the region\nWhat’s driving hydrogen adoption across Asia?\nHydrogen opportunities across the region\nKey challenges hindering hydrogen’s scalability\nWhat Asia needs to do to fully harness hydrogen’s potential?\n\nAbout the Speaker: \nMs. Ruella Menezes is a Director at Kline + Company’s Energy practice and brings with her more than 14 years of experience in strategy and consulting. With a primary focus on sustainability\, her expertise lies in supporting clients to develop robust\, scalable low-carbon business portfolios. Prior to Kline\, Ruella spent nearly a decade at Accenture\, where she supported clients in the Energy and Chemicals sector with a range of sustainability-focused strategy and consulting projects. \n\nRegistration closes on November 29\, 2024 (Friday) at 6:00 PM SGT. SUMMARY:eMobility Development Trend & EDF Development Approach for Better Efficiency
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Walter Bunting\, Director OEM AP\, Director CTS Driveline AP\, Afton Chemical Asia Pte Ltd \nThe electrification of drivetrain systems has been a move that cannot be reversed\, along with global emission rules that are becoming more stringent and the search for increasing efficiency. Annual NEV sales in Asia are rising very quickly\, particularly in the Chinese market. In order to better meet the need for fluid in eMobility applications\, numerous industry organizations have started their own task forces to develop new testing procedures or ETF specifications. As hybridization (hybrid and PHEV) and BEVs continue to coexist in Asia for the foreseeable future\, wet motor integration\, high rotational speed\, improved efficiency\, and longer durability\, as well as high voltage systems\, will be major technology development trends for eDrivetrain systems. \nAlong with the introduction of new materials and tougher operating conditions into the eAxle system\, we identified eight important performance characteristics for a new EDF design\, three of which have a significant impact on eAxle efficiency: fluid viscosity\, traction coefficient\, and thermal property. Lower fluid viscosity could significantly reduce fluid churning loss to boost efficiency in an eAxle system with high rotation. However\, the protection provided by ETF against excessive pressure and wear performances on gears and bearings may be compromised by a thinner fluid coating brought on by a lower fluid viscosity\, therefore a strong additive technology is required to offer adequate hardware protections. \nLower traction coefficients could enable for smoother gear mesh due to substantial friction reductions\, resulting in improved mechanical efficiency. In addition\, wet motor design necessitates increased ETF cooling power to stabilize motor operational temperature and maintain constant power and torque output. \nThis special event is sponsored by the ALIA Technology & Information Subcommittee under the leadership of Paul Nai. \nRegistration closes on October 25\, 2023 at 5:00 PM SGT. \nFree tickets for ALIA members.  For non-members\, tickets are US$50 per person. \nTo register\, click here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/asianlubricantmanufacturersunion/1024633

SUMMARY:Certification of Food-Grade Lubricants
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Ismael Martinez \nManager Product Certification\, NSF \nFood-grade lubricants are lubricants that are acceptable for use in meat\, poultry and other food-processing equipment\, applications and factories. The different types of lubricants are divided into categories based on the likelihood that they will come into contact with foods. They are designated across the world as either H1\, H2 or H3. The approval and registration of a new lubricant in one of these categories depends on the ingredients used in the compound. \nNSF\, based in Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, U.S.A.\, is a global\, independent organization\, whose standards team facilitates the development of public health standards\, and service teams test\, audit and certify products and services\, including food-grade lubricants. The NSF mark assures consumers\, retailers and regulators that certified products have been rigorously tested to comply with all standard requirements. \nThis special event is sponsored by the ALIA Technology & Information Subcommittee under the leadership of Paul Nai.
