ALE 2026 Technical Training – Grease Technology: Fundamentals, Manufacturing & Application

September 8 @ 8:00 am - September 9 @ 4:30 pm

In Cooperation with the European Lubricating Grease Institute (ELGI)

About the Course

Grease is widely used across industry, yet expertise in grease formulation, manufacturing and field diagnosis remains relatively scarce across the Asia-Pacific region.

Delivered in cooperation with the European Lubricating Grease Institute (ELGI) and led by four grease experts from ELGI member companies, this two-day technical training course provides engineers, formulators, distributors, end-users and maintenance professionals with a structured grounding in grease technology.

The programme follows the ELGI curriculum, adapted for an Asian audience, and progresses from the fundamentals of base oils, thickener chemistry, additives and test methods to grease manufacturing, application selection, field diagnosis, regulations, conformity standards and current market trends.

Approximately 11 hours of instruction will be delivered across the two days, combining technical learning with practical application.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for lubricant formulators and technical staff; reliability, maintenance and plant engineers; grease distributors and technical sales personnel; procurement specifiers; end-users; and professionals moving into the grease category from a broader lubricants background.

No prior grease-specific training is required.

What You Will Learn

By the end of the two-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how base oil, thickener and additive systems combine to define grease performance.
  • Identify major thickener types and understand the applications each suits.
  • Interpret standard grease test methods and understand what the results mean in practice.
  • Understand how grease is manufactured and how process choices affect the finished product.
  • Select grease based on application, operating conditions and compatibility.
  • Navigate key regulations, conformity standards and current market trends.
Programme Overview
Day 1: Chemistry & Analysis

The first day will establish the technical foundation of grease technology, covering base oils, thickeners, additives and standard test methods. Participants will gain an understanding of the components that determine grease performance and how analytical results can be interpreted in practical applications.

Day 2: Manufacturing, Application & Market

The second day will focus on grease manufacturing, application and selection, regulations, conformity standards and market trends.

The programme will also include an interactive Field Diagnosis Clinic, examining real-world grease issues including bearing failures, incompatibility, oil bleed, consistency problems and contamination. Participants are encouraged to bring their own field cases for discussion.

Course Schedule

The course will provide approximately 11 hours of instruction across two days, with a one-hour lunch break and two 30-minute coffee breaks each day.

Coffee and tea, morning and afternoon snacks, and a packed lunch will be provided daily.
